Parent’s Newsletter – February 2021

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We have been busy preparing for an exciting month revolving around dental health, Hearts & Hugs, Presidents, and a classroom choice theme. The letters of the month will be P, Q, R, along with the numbers 13&14.

February is Dental Health Month. This is an excellent time to brush up on good dental health habits. On Friday, the 12th, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day. Each class will celebrate by playing games and enjoying Valentine’s snacks.

We would like to welcome Lauren Mechler to our TLC family. She will be joining Stef if Tiny Tots. We are also happy to have Ashley Horrigan back to Small Fries. We missed her terribly. She has moved back from Florida, where she works with infants/toddlers. We are so happy to have you with us. Michaela will join Little Rascals as Mckay will be returning to college in early March. We are confident this will be a smooth transition, and we are lucky to have these great educators.

Re-registration

TLC will be having its annual re-registration starting at the end of next month. Your packets will be emailed to you. Please go over your paperwork thoroughly and fill out all sections. Everything in your child’s file needs to be updated annually. This registration process renews their spot for September. TLC is a yearly program. Your child’s spot continues through the summer. If you need to change your regular days for the upcoming school year, please note it on your form, and we will do our best to accommodate these requests. Please also note any other changes you will have before the start of the school year. If you have any questions, please see Jen or Melissa. All registrations are due April 23.

Evaluations

When you receive your child’s evaluation, please read them over, sign, and return them as soon as possible. Please feel free to speak with the child’s educator if you have any questions or concerns or would like to set up a conference.

Tuition payment

Please remember that the monthly tuition payment is due on the 29th of each month. Weekly payments are due on Thursday for the following week. We appreciate you getting your payments in on time. Please have them on time to avoid late fees.

Parent Parking lot drop off and pick up

Please take care while driving through the parking lot. We have noticed some cars going a little too fast. Small children are everywhere; please use caution. Please remember our COVID-19 guidelines and adhere to your drop off and pick up times. By keeping your times, we should not have back-ups in the PU/DO areas. If another family is still at the entrance, please wait outside for your turn. We appreciate your help with this.

Dates to remember

  • 2/12/21 Valentine’s day party
  • 2/15/21 TLC closed for President’s day
  • 2/16/21-2/21/21February school vacation week
  • (Please let us know your vacation plans)

Hello all! We had a great January learning all about the continents and exploring different cultures. We made African pianos, which were super unique and fun! (Sorry if they brought those home and drove you a little crazy) The clubhouse has been enjoying the snow we have had so far but hoping for a little more so we can keep on sledding. Everyone enjoys getting fresh air; please remember to bring in your snow gear. We are eager to start February and have already begun to make Valentine’s day cards for our veterans. With February comes chocolate, and who does not love chocolate, so bring it on! We will also focus on good dental health, so we take care of our teeth while having all these sweets.

We will wrap up the month by learning all about the Presidents and dental health.

Please make sure your child has a water bottle as well as labeled weather-appropriate outerwear every day. We would appreciate it if you could also check your child’s extra clothes to ensure they still fit.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come to us.

Happy 2021! I hope everyone’s new year is off to a great start. February was a fun-filled month here in small fries. We learned all about arctic animals, made some fun fairy tail crafts, and did lots of playing and exploring. This month we celebrated with Gabby and Olivia as they turned two!

We have been trying to get outside at least once a day, so please continue to send your children in with winter clothing every day. On snowy days, the kids love jumping in the snow and throwing “snowballs” at each other. Please feel free to bring slippers in for your child to wear in the classroom on wet days. Please also keep in mind that lunch and both morning and afternoon snacks are provided from home, so pack as much food as your child will need for the whole day.

The month of February has so much in store for us! Ashley has decided to come back to us. She will slowly be re joining our classroom in the next coming weeks! Logan and Alana will be celebrating their second birthdays with us. We will be having a class Valentine’s day party on Friday, February 12. So much to look forward to this month. We will have a small party on the 12th with some dancing, crafting, and snacking. If you would like to bring a small snack or treat to share, just let Stefanie know what you plan to send. For dental health month, we will read books about animal’s teeth and our own and try using our brushing skills to create some fun paintings.

CLUBHOUSE

Dear TLC family,

We would like to start out by giving our deepest thanks for your unwavering and diligent support over the past year here at TLC. With your patience, positivity, and persistence, we managed to have a truly unforgettable time and look forward to what the future holds for these exceptional children.

Consistent with the yearlong trend, December was no exception to the fun festivities we experienced in the Clubhouse family. Opening up the snowy (or lack thereof) season, we enriched our cultural knowledge of the Jewish faith with special help from a guest speaker, one of our own, Evan Orenstein. His talks about history, traditions, and customs complimented our spirited Star of David and Handprint Menorah crafts. You may have seen these works of art in the background while the foreground underwent its annual lighting of the trees. Some 150 cookies and a beautiful ceremony sponsored by the great Trish. Clubhouse was more than prepared to take on December by snowstorm.

The second week was focused on school spirit as the children showed of their cozy pajamas, seriously sporty attire, and creative characters. Clubhouse was not lacking originality and enthusiasm. In their outlandish outfits, teachers aided the creation of dozens of snowflakes to adorn the ceiling—creating the effect of snow indoors. Siblings waddled in wonder at these snowy shapes as they came to pick up their older brothers and sisters. The look on their faces made the hundreds of scraps of paper more than worth the cleanup.

These snowflakes acted as the perfect backdrop for our Christmas tree that everyone helped set up, light, and decorate with ornate ornaments. With the walls and halls of Clubhouse sufficiently decked, we went straight away to tidying up, prepping organic body scrubs, and crafting sentimental ornaments before the arrival of the one and only…Santa Claus. Sounds of laughter complimented the holiday music that filled the room all night long. All the creatures were stirring, save the mice, until day turned to night. And just like that, we were off to spend time with family and loved ones for a much needed Christmas break.

As we end the month with Kwanza and New Year’s Eve, we encourage everyone to reflect on the past year, both positive and negative. Try to highlight the positives and think about ways to alter the negatives into future positives. While the children enjoy their new presents, we finish with some glitzy fireworks and sincere resolutions. So whenever you happen to stumble upon this newsletter, we would just like to sincerely thank you once again. Here’s to an even better, more satisfying, and more wholesome 2019.

Regards,
Ms. Claudia, Ms. Kassidy, Mr. Aren
& everyone here at Clubhouse

November’s Newsletter – Giving Thanks!

November Newsletter – 2015

November is a symbolic month for giving thanks, exploring family traditions, and learning about the lives of the Native Americans and Early Colonists who lived before us. We plan to explore the lives of the people who inhabited this land in our past. We will also share our own family traditions and just how much we have to be thankful for.

The entire school will be creating and celebrating with a Thanksgiving feast of their own on Wednesday, November 25th. We will prepare a menu, cook our meal, and dine with our friends and teachers at TLC. It will be quite interesting to see what kind of menu they come up with.

This is a wonderful conclusion to our November curriculum.

The children enjoy dressing as Native Americans, Pilgrims, and turkeys as they participate in this fun event. Goody donation sign-up sheets will be located on our daily sign in sheets. As always, we appreciate all donations. Without your help our events would not be as successful.

Parents Newsletter: April Newsletter 2015

Parents Newsletter: April Newsletter 2015

TLC is celebrating the Week of the Young Child April 13-17. The theme is “Celebrating our youngest learners”. This is a time to recommit ourselves to ensure that each child experience the type of early learning environment at home, at child care, at school, and in the community that will promote their early learning. TLC is proud to be part of your family.

Last year we were very thankful to our families in helping us build “theme boxes” for the children. We had a great turn out and a year later the children are still enjoying these boxes. This year we will celebrate a different event every day.

  • M: Monday will be Music Monday, where we will sing dance and learn through music.
  • T: We will have our annual book swap Tuesday, April 14th. Jenna does a great job putting this event together where children can swap each other for books they have already gently read.
    • Please bring in your selections by Friday the 10th!
  • W: Wednesday is work together Wednesday. The children will learn team-building activities.
  • Th: Thursday is Arsty Thursday. The children will make classroom banners and self-portraits.
  • F: We would like to have a parent breakfast on Friday, April 17th from 7:00-8:30. Parents can “Take 5” and have a light breakfast with their child. Please join us for coffee, juice, muffins, & donuts. Each classroom will be making items for this event.

Teacher Appreciation Day
We would like to take time to appreciate our Educators. Thursday, April 16th will be teacher appreciation day. We truly value our educators at The Learning Center of Hopkinton. Their dedication shows every day when we see those happy smiling faces in the classroom.

Summer Plans
Trish is hard at work finishing our summer plans. We will be passing out all of the information as soon as possible. We have several new trips this year and we are very excited.

WISH LIST for theme buckets!
Last year we created our “theme buckets” and everyone was very generous in helping us fill them. We would like to do some refreshing this year and are asking for your donations. The children thoroughly enjoy using these boxes and use them daily. I am posting our wish list on the parent bulletin board and appreciate any help you can give.

Re-registration
Thank you to our families who have sent in their paperwork. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the office. This registration process is to hold their spots for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. We are a year round program so their current spot continues through the end of August. We cannot hold spots during the summer. If you have activities for your child please see us so we can work out a plan. If you are planning on not returning is September please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan to use your deposit appropriately.

Tiny Tots

March was a great month for the tiny tots! We all had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday and St. Patrick’s day with plenty of silly rhymes and leprechaun mischief. We also have been preparing for spring to arrive and making the room look colorful with springtime art projects as well as Easter eggs, bunnies and baskets.

April will hopefully give us some warmer weather and melt the snow so we can enjoy our play area once again. For now we have been going outside when the weather allows and have been playing with bubbles and getting creative with chalk, drawing and making up games to play.

This month’s themes are:

  • In my Garden
  • Week of the Young Child
  • Our beautiful Earth & Viva la Mexico
  • We will be focusing on learning the letters V, W & X
  • The color yellow
  • The shape oval

We hope you all had a wonderful Easter and start to spring. Keep thinking warm thoughts and hopefully all this snow will be gone soon!!

Stefanie & Erin

Small Fries

Happy Spring everyone, hopefully we will all start seeing some warmer weather.

The Small Fries enjoyed so many things in March.  We learned all about Dr. Seuss – ate green eggs and ham and even had a visit from the Cat in the Hat. The Leprechauns came to visit and played many tricks on the children of TLC.

We have also been doing many projects to learn about Spring… we will continue this through April.

  • The Small Fries say a sad goodbye to Mia as she transitions into The Little Rascals’ room; we know she will continue to thrive.
  • We welcome Jonathan into our room.
  • We will be celebrating Easter this month and hope to have a visit from the Easter Bunny.
  • We will be learning about our earth and gardening.  The most exciting part if April will be celebrating Week of the Young Child. There will be special activities for everyday, culminating in a breakfast for the parents to enjoy with their children.

Please make sure your child has weather appropriate labeled clothing every day.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to speak to us!

Thank you,

TLC March Newsletter 2015

March 2015 – The Learning Center of Hopkinton

We hoped everyone enjoyed February vacation week. We saw quite a few families on vacation. We hope you were somewhere warm avoiding the snowy weather we had here.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Keep an eye out to see if our lucky Leprechaun has paid us a special visit. The Clubhouse classroom will be busy designing special traps to try and catch one.

Thank you!

We appreciate everyone’s patience with our decisions to be closed on those days we had treacherous weather. The decision is made to ensure everyone stays safe and off the roads if necessary. Our goal is to stay open but we rely on the local weather predictions and our plowing crew to try to make the best call for everyone. Who knows when the melt down will begin? It will be a while before we see green grass!

Re-registration

Re-registration packets will soon be available to be picked up in the office. Please see Melissa or Jen for your family’s packet. Please fill out all of the information for each child, as everything needs to be updated.

Let’s Sanitize Your Extra Clothing

There have been quite a few illnesses reported in the center. The teachers and assistants have been working hard washing toys and sanitizing all other areas. Please make sure to take your child’s sleeping bag home regularly to be washed. If you have any questions on our health policies please feel free to ask.

Welcome back Stefanie! Welcome Carson!

We would like to welcome back Stefanie from maternity leave and welcome baby Carson to the Little Tykes classroom.

Dates to remember:

  • March 13th Early release – all schools (Thursday)
  • March 17th St. Patrick’s Day celebration

Small Fries

We had a great month learning about dental health, love, Presidents and other countries.  We hope you all enjoyed the special cards made with love by your children.

This month we are looking forward to a great lesson about Dr. Seuss.  We hope the cat in the hat visits us and brings green eggs and ham! If we get lucky maybe the leprechauns will visit the Small Fries and bring us some gold.

The Small Fries can’t wait to learn all about what happens in the spring.  Hopefully the lesson will come with some warmer weather.

We also will be preparing for the Easter Bunny. The Small Fries would like to see him hopping through the fields as we close in on March.

Unfortunately the class has not been able to make it out much this winter due to the frigid temperatures. We are hoping that the weather will begin to warm up so we can be outside more.

* As the weather gets nicer, please make sure your child has labeled weather appropriate outerwear every day.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to speak to Christine or Ashley.

Thank you!

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The 2014 Week of the Young Child™ is April 6–12.

The Learning Center is very proud to be involved in this program. Kids truly do come first at TLC and our primary purpose is to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

To go along with our annual book swap (Wednesday, 4.9) and parent breakfast (Friday, 4.11), we will be putting together themed dramatic play boxes  for the classrooms to share. Each classroom is responsible for putting together two boxes.

Can you help? Please feel free to donate not only to your child’s classroom but to others as well. You should have received a list of themes and items that would really benefit the kids.

If you have any questions at all, please ask your children’s teacher(s).

Thank you in advance for helping to enrich your child’s experience at TLC – and we promise to do the same!

Thanks again,

Your TLC Family

Having Fun While Teaching Children How to Give Thanks – TLC Hopkinton, MA

Teaching kids to be thankful doesn’t need to involve guilt trips but it’s interesting to learn that “Thankfulness” is not a fixed trait. Fortunately, it is a skill that can be easily cultivated and Thanksgiving is a great time for this. Since the schools and daycare programs are speaking about these topics as well, it’s an ideal time to talk to your children about remembering the things they are thankful for.

Try these easy and fun ways to teach your children to be thankful this year:

  • Before bed each night, ask your children one thing each night they are thankful for. You’ll love the answers.
  • When food shopping, encourage your children to pick one or two canned goods to donate to a Thanksgiving food drive or a food bank
  • With the holidays coming, encourage your children to donate a few toys they no longer use
  • Write a note: Ask your kids to write a handwritten note to someone they’re thankful for. If they can’t write, ask them what they would tell this person and surprise that person with a note this year!
  • (It would also be cute for you to write your children a note too!)
  • First and foremost, lead by example. Always say “thank you” and express gratitude

For age specific tips, check these out:

Ages 0-3

For the very young, holidays are about family and spending time together. Setting some special time aside to enjoy family is special. For toddlers, providing them with a craft or simply some crayons for parents, grandparents and family to copy what they color or color along is fun. Or simply read a few stories together. In the younger years, it’s about the time and smiles you spend with your family.

Ages 4-7

This is a fun age for children to make them feel special with crafts, notes, and family time – it’s a good time to teach them that Thanksgiving isn’t just about the food too! To include them, have them make the table setting cards or a special craft for each family member. If your family is large, do it with them. The time you give your children this month doing “thankful” things is something you will be thankful for! And a fun game to play at any time is the game of “Alphabet Thanks.” This is a game where children can pick a letter from a bowl and mention something that they are thankful for that begins with the letter they picked. It’s cute to get into their heads like this when they have to think!

Ages 8-12

This age group is ready to put the spirit of Thanksgiving into practice by canvassing their neighborhood, collecting canned food items for those in need. For fun on Thanksgiving Day, have this age group use a video camera to film their own home movie about giving thanks. Guests can be entertained as they view the finished work on the TV during dessert. This is also a great time to have your children write in their journals and notebooks what they are thankful for.

Keep the gratitude going. One of the most practical ways to inspire gratitude is also the simplest. You don’t have to be involved in big projects or volunteer all the time. Simply set aside time to name one or two things every person in the family is grateful for each day or week. Keep the notes going. Encourage donations. And always give thanks to each other.

Last but not least, thank you to all of the teachers and staff at TLC! We are all very thankful.
