March 2020 Parent’s Newsletter

March NewsletterLucky-Leprechaun-TheLearningCenter-Hopkinton

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Keep an eye out to see if our lucky Leprechaun has paid us a special visit. The Clubhouse classroom will be busy designing special traps to try and catch one.

We hoped everyone enjoyed their February vacation week. We saw quite a few families on vacation. We hope you were somewhere warm avoiding the chilly weather we had here.

Melissa has emailed out our annual re-registration packets. If you have not received one, please let us know. Please fill out and sign all the necessary areas. Packets need to be returned by March 16th. We need this information to plan our 2020-2021 school year. If we do not hear from your family, we will begin our process of enrolling children from our waiting list. We understand families have requested changes to their summer schedule. Now, we are full and cannot accept any of these changes until we have all re-registrations in.

There have been quite a few illnesses reported in the center. The teachers and assistants have been working hard washing toys and sanitizing all other areas. Please make sure to take your child’s sleeping bag home regularly to be washed. If you have any questions about our health policies, please feel free to ask.

We cannot wait for spring and the warm weather to arrive. We are enjoying outdoor play without all the snow gear whenever we can. With the thaw coming the play yard can get muddy so rain boot or snow boots may still be needed.

Little Rascals

The Little Rascals had a lovely February celebrating Valentine’s day with our friends.  We will be beginning March by exploring the very silly world of Dr. Seuss and all his crazy creatures.  Next up will be trying to catch Leprechauns and see what kind of shenanigans they cause in our school.

We will be celebrating the start of Spring this month with many flowers and all our friends that live in the pond. March will wrap up with the Little Rascals learning all about what foods are healthy and which should only be treats during our lesson on nutrition.

The weather is constantly changing so please be sure your child has weather, age-appropriate clothes every day.  Children should also have a reusable water bottle daily.  Please label everything.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please come speak to us.

Thank you,

Christine & Kassidy

  • Spring has sprung
  • Nutrition
  • S, t, u
  • 15, 16

Please send your child to school with a water bottle every day.  They also need a change of clothes because accidents happen.  If your child wears pull-ups at naptime, please send them in if we leave a note for you. We must borrow other people’s pull-ups if you do not send them in.  We do not have any extra pull-ups.  As always let us know if you have any concerns.

Small Fries

Welcome, March! We are so excited to have had a few nice days in the month of February.  It is so nice to get some outside time for some fresh air. We got to celebrate with Aiden and eat some yummy cupcakes as he turned two!  We also welcome our new friend Jeremy into our room. We had a great transition from the baby room. February, we got to make so many love crafts and talked about everybody that we love. We decorated cookies for our Valentine’s Day party and played with heart-shaped balloons as we danced to love music.  At the end of the month, we learned all about brushing her teeth and taking care of them. We talked about food that’s good for our teeth and food that make our teeth sad. We even got to practice brushing and flossing on fake teeth.

We have so much in store for the month of March. Hoping for some warmer weather to come so we can enjoy more outside time. Please pay close attention to your child’s daily sheets. We often have important information about your child’s needs. The month of March is going to be so fun here and small fries! As always feel free to come to Sam or Ashley with any questions or concerns.

Happy March Little Tykes!

We are going to be learning about Dr. Seuss this month, which means lots and lots of books! We will also be exploring the themes of springtime and nutrition, which will include tons of sensory play and fun snacks. We can’t forget to keep a lookout for the leprechaun visit this St. Patrick’s Day!

As the weather warms up, we will be going for walks and playing out on the back deck more. It is still a little chilly so please make sure that your child has the appropriate outside gear. For our older babies, please make sure they have a pair of shoes on hand!

Thank you,

The clubhouse had a fun-filled February!  We enjoyed traveling around the world and creating art from different cultures, along with lots of Valentine’s Day crafts and activities! Our Vacation week was full of presidents and collaborative art. This past week, we designed our names with doodles and lots of colors.  Coming up in March, we will hopefully be able to get outside more since it is staying lighter later! An exciting sign that summer is coming! As it turns to spring, we will create some colorful spring crafts, along with learning about Nutrition and healthy bodies! Please remember to continue to send weather appropriate clothes and shoes as the weather starts to change.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Happy March everyone! It’s almost spring and the Tiny Tots have a very busy month ahead of them while hoping for warmer weather and more outside playtime.  We wish to welcome some new friends this month! We are very excited to have fun with and get to know Andrew and Keegan!

We will begin our month by celebrating silly Dr. Seuss’ birthday with some green eggs and ham and reading many of his wonderful stories.

Our Lucky Leprechauns unit will have us watching out for mischievous little leprechauns who are known to play lots of silly tricks around TLC for St. Patrick’s Day. We will create lots of fun Irish themed artwork to decorate our classroom, learn about Ireland and dance to some fun Irish music.

Next, we will talk about nutrition and keeping our bodies healthy. We will learn about the food groups and make lots of healthy snacks.

Finally, we will be celebrating the beginning of spring and learn about pond life, getting to know the plants and animals who will emerge as the spring progresses.

The letters we will be focusing on are S, T & U. The color is green, and the shape is diamond

Think warm thoughts and have a wonderful month!

CLUBHOUSE

Dear Clubhouse Parents,

Rain, rain—oh how we wish you’d go away! These past few weeks have certainly been on the wetter side of things but that fits perfectly with our week of Weather and Rainbows. The kids crafted up a storm of rain-inspired paintings using dyed water, eye droppers, and an easel out on the playground. Ironically, it started to pour mere moments after the last project was finished. On days we were stuck inside, we had the chance to learn about weather patterns, collaborate on a giant rain cloud, and watch the weather unfold. This teamwork carried over into the middle of the month when everyone helped create marathon banners for our town’s favorite event as well as the lengthy process of growing crystals…and that was just the first half of April.

As Hippity Hoppity Bunnies week hopped into sight, you may have taken home a beautifully colored-in egg drawing, seen a vibrant chalk-outlined bunny, or heard about the Clubhouse-wide Easter egg hunt, complete with a special springtime surprise. We truly hope everyone had a lovely Easter or Passover celebration spent with family and friends. To conclude this transitory month, we celebrate Earth Day and Gardening, a week dedicated to the one and only planet Earth. Whether it be tulips made from plastic forks or learning about reducing, reusing, and recycling, Clubhouse is sure to end on a green note before heading into the month of what we believe should be a federally recognized holiday: Mother’s Day.

Until next time,

Mr. Aren Arakelian, Miss. Kassidy Griffiths, and the Teachers of Clubhouse

This month we will be exploring Cinco de Mayo, transportation and art appreciation.  May will also be about celebrating our mommies.  We will be working on special surprises so mums the word. We have also begun graduation practice so don’t be surprised if your children are singing new songs.

Please make sure that your child has labeled, weather-appropriate outerwear and spare clothes.  Each child also needs a water bottle daily. Hopefully, the snow is done for the season, please be sure to bring the winter gear home.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to come to speak to us about them.

Clubhouse

Hi everyone,

We hope all our TLC families had a great Thanksgiving! The Clubhouse enjoyed the Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday.  Thanks to all who donated to help make the feast a success. November was a fun month for us, we took a sensory walk to Elmwood School and set up sensory tables in class for the children to test their senses.

We took another walk to Elmwood School to find walking sticks, which we then decorated, we discussed what the children were learning about the Pilgrims and Native Americans in school while also making some fun related crafts. This week our theme is Community helpers, and as we enter December our themes will be Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Fairytales.

I’m looking forward to a fun month ahead, I hope the children are too. Just a reminder that coats, hats and gloves are needed to go outside, it has become very chilly and we do get out to play for a bit after the children get off the bus and have a snack. Thank you everyone and have a great December!

April 2016 Parent’s Newsletter

April 2016

TLC is celebrating the Week of the Young Child April 11-15. The theme is “Celebrating our youngest learners”. This is a time to recommit ourselves to ensure that each child experience the type of early learning environment at home, at child care, at school, and in the community that will promote their early learning.

TLC is proud to be part of your family. Two years we were very thankful to our families in helping us build “theme boxes” for the children. It is time to refresh these theme boxes and create some new. We need everyone’s help.

This year we plan to celebrate a different event every day to honor Week of the Young Child.

Monday: Monday will be Music Monday, where we will sing dance and learn through music.

Tuesday: We will have our annual book swap Tuesday, April 12th. Mellissa F. will be taking over this job and putting this event together where children can swap each other for books they have already gently read. Please have your child choose 3 books they wish to give up (close to their age group) and on Tuesday they will be able to pick out 3 “new” books to take home. If you have any questions please feel free to speak with Mellissa.

Wednesday: Wednesday is work together Wednesday. The children will learn team building activities.

Thursday: Thursday is Artsy Thursday. The children will make classroom banners and self-portraits.

Friday: We would like to invite you to our parent breakfast on Friday, April 15th from 7:00-8:30. Parents can “Take 5” and have a light breakfast with their child. Please join us for coffee, juice, muffins, & donuts.  Each classroom will be making items for this event.

We would like to take time to appreciate our Educators. Thursday, April 14th will be teacher appreciation day. We truly value our educators at The Learning Center of Hopkinton. Their dedication shows every day when we see those happy smiling faces in the classroom.

Summer Program

Trish is hard at work finishing our summer plans. We will be passing out all of the information as soon as possible. To take a peak at last year’s amazing program, click here.

Theme Buckets

Two years we created our “Theme buckets” and everyone was very generous in helping us fill them. We would like to do some refreshing this year and are asking for your donations. The children thoroughly enjoy using these boxes and use them daily. I am posting our wish list on the parent bulletin board and appreciate any help you can give.  Please if everyone can donate a few items our theme boxes will get the rejuvenation the need.

Re-Registration

Thank you to our families who have sent in their paperwork. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the office. This registration process is to hold their spots for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. We are a year round program so their current spot continues through the end of August. We cannot hold spots during the summer. If you have activities for your children please see us so we can work out a plan. If you are not planning to return in September please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan to use your deposit appropriately. Thank you for your help.

Important Dates

  • April 11-15: Week of the Young Child
  • Thursday, April 14: TLC Appreciation Day
  • Friday, April 15: Early release for elementary
  • Monday, April 18: TLC closed (Marathon Monday)

Happy Spring! We would like to welcome Christian and Dominic to the Tiny Tot’s classroom!
March was a busy month for the toddlers. We were able to spend so much time outside, hope for a leprechaun on St. Patrick’s Day, and celebrate Easter. We were busy making projects and exploring different sensory experiences related to our topics. We are very excited to spend more time outside as the weather gets warmer each week.
If you haven’t done so already, please take your child’s snow gear home and replenish extra clothes bins with weather appropriate clothes.
The Tiny Tot’s are accepting donations of board books and other age appropriate toys. As you are spring cleaning your homes, don’t forget about us!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and please remember to bring in the proper attire as the weather is still chilly.

As we begin this holiday season, we would like to thank all of our parents for generously donating supplies for our Thanksgiving feast. It was a great time.

We will be closed on Friday, December 25th in observance of Christmas.

We close at 5:00 pm on New Year’s eve and will be closed January 1st for New Year’s Day.

We will have a sign up on the bulletin board so parents can let us know their holiday plans. This really helps with staffing.

Each classroom will have a small celebration of their own on 12/18. Santa will be visiting from 3:30-5:30 pm on December 18, as you pick up your child you can visit Santa with your family and take a photo. Santa brings a sack full of toys for all good girls and boys. As in the past, each parent brings in a gift in advance to be given by Santa. The pre-wrapped gift can be brought in any time before the 18th.

Outdoor play is an essential part of your children’s day. Please remember to bring in mittens, hats, boots, snow pants, warm jacket and boots. Slippers are also suggested as they keep our feet toasty warm and our carpets clean and dry. Please label ALL items. We tend to get duplicate boots and ski pants etc. Storing them in a recycle bag to hang on their hook is very helpful. Thank you!

November’s Newsletter – Giving Thanks!

November Newsletter – 2015

November is a symbolic month for giving thanks, exploring family traditions, and learning about the lives of the Native Americans and Early Colonists who lived before us. We plan to explore the lives of the people who inhabited this land in our past. We will also share our own family traditions and just how much we have to be thankful for.

The entire school will be creating and celebrating with a Thanksgiving feast of their own on Wednesday, November 25th. We will prepare a menu, cook our meal, and dine with our friends and teachers at TLC. It will be quite interesting to see what kind of menu they come up with.

This is a wonderful conclusion to our November curriculum.

The children enjoy dressing as Native Americans, Pilgrims, and turkeys as they participate in this fun event. Goody donation sign-up sheets will be located on our daily sign in sheets. As always, we appreciate all donations. Without your help our events would not be as successful.

Thank you to all of our families who helped us raise money through our fundraiser.

Clubhouse

Although October is coming to an end, the children have been waiting patiently, but eagerly for our Halloween party/ Haunted Trail. This month we have focused on the evolution of dinosaurs and how they became extinct. With that being said, the children have learned the cycle of leaves and the reasons to why leaves die and fall off trees. We have focused on a very important topic this month which was about Fire Safety. The children learned what to do in case there were ever to be a fire and the following steps and exits to take in case there were ever to be put in that situation.

As November creeps around the corner, the children are looking forward to:

  • Five Senses
  • Community Helpers
  • Native Americans
  • Thanksgiving

Please check your mailboxes daily. As the weather begins to change and it is getting cooler outside, all children must bring appropriate outside attire including jackets with them. We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
